NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSION
This Public Workshop/Information Session for the residents and taxpayers of Riverdale was held in the Community Room of Riverdale’s City Hall at the appointed time (6:30 pm on Tuesday, February 8, 2022) and in accordance with open meeting laws set and defined by the State of Iowa.
What’s on the agenda?
The State of Iowa requires every city to hold a public hearing to present its plans for property tax levies that will be in effect the next fiscal year. While that official public hearing will take place later in February, the City will be hosting a public information session for interested citizens and taxpayers so they may ask questions and register any concerns or complaints they may have as part of the process.
A copy of the agenda for Tuesday’s workshop/information session is linked to this post as is a larger packet that includes both the agenda and a lengthy memo explaining how the proposed tax levies were developed and the next steps in the process of developing a budget for FY23 (which runs from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023).
Public comment at this meeting will be accepted in the same manner as comments raised during a public hearing. According to Section 384.15A (5)(a) of the Iowa Code, residents and/or property owners of the City can express their objections orally or in writing. After receiving and considering all of the objections, the City Council may decide to decrease (not increase) the proposed maximum property tax dollar amount and then set it as part of the next year’s budget.
