Riverdale teams with PV Schools to win “Trees for Kids” grant

Look for more trees in Riverdale and at Riverdale Heights Elementary School this spring!  The City has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to fund a tree-planting project that will involve kids at the school (located on Devils Glen Road in Bettendorf) and volunteers from the City.

Mayor Anthony Heddlesten

The City of Riverdale and the Pleasant Valley Community School District worked together to submit a grant request. “We were really pleased with the cooperation from the school district,” explained Riverdale Mayor Anthony Heddlesten. “Our objective with this grant request was to find a way to finance a hands-on project for kids to plant and care for trees and their community.”

Funding provided by IDNR will be used to purchase landscape trees and mulch. The trees will be planted both on City-owned ground in Riverdale and at Riverdale Heights Elementary School – which is the school that replaced the old, Riverdale Elementary School located across Manor Drive from City Hall on State Street.

A tree-planting activity is currently planned for April 22. More details will be added to this post when they become available.
